SOCIAL PROTECTION IN DUBAI>
Some of the main aims of the Federal National Council are to achieve family stability, offer child protection and youth guidance: help the underprivileged, disabled and elderly members of the community and encourage voluntary activities for social services.
In July 1999 the FNC approved new legislation regulating social security benefits so that nationals now entitled to monthly social benefits include widows, divorced women, people with special needs, the elderly and infirm, orphans, single daughters, married students, dependent relatives of prisoner, estranged wives and bankrupts. All widowed and divorced women who were married to foreigners are also eligible for social security payments. The Committee will also consider an application from a national woman whose husband is a foreigner and unable to earn a living for reasons beyond his control.
Since September 1999 UAE nationals who work for private companies are entitled to the same social security benefits as UAE national working for the Government. Nationals who have contributed to the social security scheme will be eligible for retirement and disability benefits and compensation on death.
