FACTS ABOUT DUBAI

Dubai is the second largest member of the United Arab Emirates, with a population of 483,000 people spreading over an area of 3885 square kilometres. The UAE is four hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The "dirham" (Dh), which is divided into 100 "fils", is Dubai's currency.

The Dubai Creek, which is an inlet from the Gulf, divides Dubai into two areas: Deira and Bur Dubai.
Deira is the more traditional and historical part of the city which accommodates Dubai's International Airport as well as a popular fish market and many lively bazaars selling spices and gold.
Bur Dubai is full of modern apartment complexes, banks, shopping areas and hotels. The bridges of Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum connect this area with the rest of Dubai.

Below you will find some useful and important facts for a stay in Dubai:

Clothing: Dubai's dress code is much more relaxed than in most other areas of the UAE. But in respect the country's religion and culture you should wear clothes which show a minimum of flesh.
Religion: Islam is the official and most practiced religion. Numerous Mosques can be found in the city and Non-Muslims should not go inside them.
Alcohol: Due to the country's religion, alcohol is neither sold nor served in any cafes or restaurants. Driving and being in public under the influence of alcohol is forbidden by law and can have serious consequences. Four and five star hotels do serve alcohol in their bars and restaurants.
Photography: Always ask for permission before taking photos - especially of women.
